Side view of Indian Institiue of Advanced Studies Shimla (Night View)

Posted by Ripple (VJ) : SHIMLA: Side view of Indian Institiue of Advanced Studies Shimla (Night View) The building that houses the Institute was originally built as a home for Lord Dufferin, Viceroy of India from 1884 - 1888 and was called the Viceregal Lodge.[2] It housed all the subsequent viceroys and governor generals of India. It occupied the Observatory Hill, one of the seven hills that Shimla is built upon. Many historic decisions have been taken in the building during the Indian independence movement. The Simla Conference was held here in 1945. The decision to carve out Pakistan and East Pakistan from India was also taken here in 1947.[2] After India gained independence, the building was renamed Rashtrapati Niwas and was used as a summer retreat for the President of India. However, due to its neglect, Dr. S Radhakrishnan decided to turn it into a centre of higher learning. Side view of Viceregal Lodge ShimlaSide view of Viceregal Lodge Shimla (Night View)

Light passing through window @ Old Fort, Delhi

This old but wonderful fort has been a witness to some of the greatest events in the history of India. Its battle scared walls speaks of the agony of defeat and joy of victory. Purana Quila is at the same time imposing and inspiring.

Hayat-Bakhsh Garden, Red Fort @ Delhi

Hayat-Bakhsh Garden And The Pavilions

The Red Fort and the city of Shahjahanabad was constructed by the Emperor Shah Jahan in 1639 A.D. The layout of the Red Fort was organised to retain and integrate this site with the Salimgarh Fort. The fortress palace is an important focal point of the medieval city of Shahjahanabad. The planning and aesthetics of the Red Fort represent the zenith of Mughal creativity which prevailed during the reign of Emperor Shahjahan. This Fort has had many developments added on after its construction by Emperor Shahjahan. The significant phases of development were under Aurangzeb and later Mughal rulers. Important physical changes were carried out in the overall settings of the site after the First War of Independence during British Rule in 1857. After Independence, the site experienced a few changes in terms of addition/alteration to the structures. During the British period the Fort was mainly used as a cantonment and even after Independence, a significant part of the Fort remained under the control of the Army until the year 2003.
