Christ Churh against the Dramatic Blue Sky @ Ritz, SHIMLA

Shimla - A Walk Down the Memory Lane: Shimla makes me nostalgic. I did my engineering from Shimla and those were some of the most exciting days of my life. Night outs with friends, late night booze parties, we did all and then grew out of it. Now when I am working and have been in Delhi for more than five years, I still return to Shimla at the smallest excuse and Shimla never ceases to disappoint me: Posted by Ripple (VJ) on PHOTO JOURNEY @ www.travellingcamera.com : ripple, Vijay Kumar Sharma, ripple4photography, Frozen Moments, photographs, Photography, ripple (VJ), VJ, Ripple (VJ) Photography, Capture Present for Future, Freeze Present for Future, ripple (VJ) Photographs , VJ Photographs, Ripple (VJ) Photography :

This is the true nature of Shimla. Nature and Commercialism live side-by-side and the co-existence is so natural that it seems that this is how nature planned it.

Hybrid wheat grass which is easy to harvest...

Few Photographs from my recent visit to Himachal before Baisakhi: Baisakhi is an ancient harvest festival in the Punjab region which also marks beginning of the second month on the solar calendar and new harvest season. Baisakhi is also a Sikh religious festival. It falls on the first day of the Baisakh month in the solar Nanakshahi calendar which usually corresponds to April 13th in the Gregorian calendar. According to the Gregorian Calendar Baisakhi falls on April 13 every year and on April 14 once in 36 years. This variation in date is due to the fact that the date of Baisakhi is reckoned according to the Indian solar calendar and not the lunar calendar. This day is also observed as the beginning of the Hindu solar new year celebrated by the people of Nepal and India in Kerala, Orissa, West Bengal and some other regions of India. The particular significance attached to the occasion shows regional variation outside of Punjab too. In Himachal Pradesh, the Hindu Goddess Jwalamukhi is worshipped on Baisakhi, while in Bihar, the Sun-god Surya is honoured. The festival is celebrated as Rongali Bihu in Assam, Naba Barsha or Pohela Boishakh in Bengal, Assam and Tripura, as Bikhu or Bikhauti in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, Puthandu (Tamil New Year) in Tamil Nadu, Vishu (or Vaishakhi) in Kerala, Maha Vishuba Sankranti (or Pana Sankranti) in Orissa, and the Sinhala and Tamil new year festival in Sri Lanka. Besides Punjab, Baisakhi is widely celebrated as traditional harvest festival in many northern states of India, such as Haryana and Himachal Pradesh. In many places the day is marked by ritualistic bathing in sacred rivers like the Ganges.Wheat.: VJ, ripple, Vijay Kumar Sharma, ripple4photography, Frozen Moments, photographs, Photography, ripple (VJ), VJ, Ripple (VJ) Photography, VJ-Photography, Capture Present for Future, Freeze Present for Future, ripple (VJ) Photographs , VJ Photographs, Ripple (VJ) Photography

It runs north east to south west starting from the Transport Area round about to Sector 47 covering about 4 Kms. On both sides of the road 12 rows of mango of different varieties of dusheri, langra and chausa have been planted. This belt constitutes a complete tree buffer to protect the residential areas from the pollutants emanating from the factories and also from the heavy traffic moving along the Purv Marg. About 5000 mango trees are planted here.

Rock Garden Chandigarh

Chandigarh: Rock garden, Rose garden, Shanti Kunj, Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh Sector-17, Chandigarh Sector-22 Market

Rock garden is near to Sukhna Lake. The entrance leads to a magnificent, almost, surrealist arrangement of rocks, boulders, broken chinaware, discarded fluorescent tubes, broken and cast away glass bangles, building waste, coal & clay-all juxtaposed to create a dream folk world of places, soldiers, monkeys, village life, women and temples. In the end there is a huge open space surrounded by different kind of mirrors having special effects. There are lot of things to do for children.

Green Ground(Chowgan) in the centre of Chamba Town, where Migar Fair takes place every year

The town of Chamba is located at a distance of 56 kms from Dalhousie. Unlike Dalhousie, Chamba is located in a valley surrounded by majestic mountains and lies on the banks of the river Ravi. The town is also famous for the fact that a part of the Bollywood movie, Taal, was shot here. The market area in the town is not well-maintained and desparately cries out for a cleaning up. The colorful sloping roofs contrast well with the brown of the mountains and the deep blues of the sky. There is a vast green area right in front of the town. This is the garden that features in most of the Himachal pradesh Tourism Pictures of Chamba. When I visited Chamba, the green area was not open for public. Work was in progress for installing light posts and what looked like the entire population of the town was simply standing there and watching the labourers at work. These are the simple pleasures that you lose out on while living a super fast city life. All around the green area, there is a paved path. The place is ideal for an evening walk. I had Golgappas there. Not good as the ones we get in Delhi. These were the lights that were being installed in the green area. There were a few benches there leading me to believe that the garden does open up for the public some time. The Entrance. Among other attractions of Chamba is this Raja Bhuri Singh Museum which show cases several paintings, sculptures and weapons. The museum was established in 1908.Chamba, Himachal Pradesh, himalayas, Taal, Valley, Town, Museum, Raja Bhuri Singh

Minjar is the most popular fair of Chamba district of himachal pradesh, which is attended by a large number of people from every corner of the district. This fair is held on the second Sunday of the Shravana month (i.e. Between last week of July to first week of August). The fair is announced by distribution of Minjar which is a silk tassel worn on some parts of the dress by men and women alike. This tassel symbolizes the shoots of paddy and maize which make their appearance around this time of the year. The week long fair begins when the Minjar flag is hoisted in historical Chowgan. The town of Chamba wears a colorful look with every person turning out in best attire.
