This is suggestive of the fact that this must have been the oldest and most frequented pass in the region, or the fact that it is the main pass leading from one cultural region (Indian) to another, quite different one, to the north.Rohtang pass provides a natural divide between the sub-humid/humid Kullu Valley with a primarily Hindu culture (in the south), and the arid/semi-arid high-altitude Lahaul and Spiti valleys with a Buddhist culture (in the north). rotang pass lies on the watershed between the Chenab and Beas Basins. Bhagsunag Waterfall @ Mcleoganj, Dharmshala, Himachal Pradesh

POSTED BY RIPPLE (VJ) on PHOTO JOURNEY : Waterfall near Bhagsu Temple @ Mcleodganj, Dharmshala, Himachal Pradesh: Bhagsu Nag temple is in Bhagsu Village about a km from McCleodganj. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and has great historical significance. About seven streams, like miniature waterfalls flow here and these are considered holy with cleansing properties by devotees. A freshwater spring also flows through the temple and bathing in its waters is considered a spiritual experience in itself. The village of Bhagsu is originally a tribal Gaddi village, but now many Israelis have made it their home offering services and working to support themselves. In fact many of the signs are written in Hebrew and Hebrew is spoken in the streets, making the village a strange combination of Indians and Israelis. The village is a good start-out place for hikes and treks.: Hills, Himachal, Colorful, Dharmshala, Upper Dharmshala, Waterfall, bhagsunag, Triund, Himachal Pradesh: Bhagsunag Waterfall @ Upper Dharmshala(Mcleodganj), Himachal Pradesh

The lake is shaped like a square with the shoreline of about 735 m. It is held as a sacred spot for Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists alike. Legend has it that the great teacher Padmasambhava (Guru Rimpoche) used his enormous power to take flight to Tibet from Rewalsar. In Rewalsar, his spirit is said to reside in the tiny island of floating reed that drifts over the water. There are three Buddhist monasteries at Rewalsar. Ranthambore wildlife sanctuary is famous for its tigers and is one of the best places in India to see these majestic predators in the jungle. Tigers can be easily spotted even during the day Time. The time of the fair coincides with the bright half of the moon during the months of October-November. The lake at Pushkar is one of the most sacred in India. Special Attractions - Camel FairThe picturesque lake of Pushkar is set in a valley just about 11 kilometres northwest of Ajmer, surrounded by hills on three sides and sand dunes on the fourth. Pushkar forms a fascinating location and a befitting backdrop for the annual religious and cattle fair. Turbaned heads of men, and colorful veils and skirts of the women, bring alive the arid desertscape. The village women dress in their best colourful clothes and finery for the five-day mela. Like Varanasi, Pushkar is one of the sacred places for the Hindus, with 400 temples of which the most important is dedicated to Lord Brahma - the creator of the universe. Fifty-two ghats bind the lake. During the days of the mela, the otherwise tranquil lake is engulfed with religious fervor. Thousands of devotees collect to take a dip, sadhus descend from the Himalayas and people pray for salvation to the sound of verses from the Holy Scriptures, which fill the air. In the afternoons, people crowd the stadium where camels, horses, and cows are paraded and raced. Camels are bought and sold during the Pushkar fair. On the roadside, stalls of all kinds are set up to sell a cornucopia of items. Almost every household is engaged in setting them up as the locals try to capitalize on the massive influx of people. It is impossible to drive around because of the large crowds. Either you hire a camel or you walk. In this aspect, it is truly a rural bazaar. An interesting part of the Pushkar Fair is the mass trading of camels. Of course, cattle and other livestock are also traded, but it's camels that hold center stage at Pushkar. Camel-traders and villagers from miles away converge to Pushkar with their humped beasts. Over 25,000 camels (on the conservative side) are traded; making this world's largest camel fair. Since Pushkar is a religious place alcohol and non-vegetarian food is prohibited. Pushkar Fair - Rituals and Traditions Girls in Pushkar FairThese five days are a period of relaxation and merry-making for the villagers, despite being the busiest for them, as this is one of the largest cattle fairs in the country. Animals, mainly camels, are brought from miles around. Trading is brisk as several thousand heads of cattle exchange hands. All the camels are cleaned, washed, adorned, some are interestingly shorn to form patterns, and special stalls are set up selling finery and jewelry for the camels. Camels at the Pushkar fair are decorated with great care. They wear jewelry of silver and beads. There are silver bells and bangles around their ankles that jingle-jangle when they walk. An interesting ritual is the piercing of a camel's nose. Races and competitions are organized. Camels lope across the sands sometimes throwing their riders on to the vast sands, amidst cheers and jeers from thousands of spectators. An interesting event is the camel beauty contest, where they are adorned and paraded. The camels preen before the crowds, enjoying every moment of the attention they get. It is believed that for five days every year, all the gods visit Pushkar and bless the devout. This accounts for the unbelievable number of devotees who flock to the lake to wash away their sins.

Solang Valley @ Manali, Himachal Pradesh : Valley of Sports

Solang valley is in Himachal Pradesh, India and is known for its summer and winter sports. The sports most commonly offered are parachuting, paragliding, skating and zorbing. Giant slopes of lawn comprise Solang Valley and provide it its reputation as a popular ski resort. A few ski agencies offering courses and equipment reside here and operate only during winters.Snow melts during the summer months and skiing is then replaced by zorbing (a giant ball with room for 2 people which is rolled down a 200 meter hill), paragliding, parachuting and horse riding. 13 kms. is a splendid valley between Solang village and Beas Kund. Solang valley offers the view of glaciers and snow capped mountains and peaks. It has fine ski slopes. The Mountaineering Institute has installed a ski lift for training purpose. Located here is a hut and guest house of the Mountaineering and Allied sports Institute, Manali. Now a few hotels have also come up. The winter skiing festival is organised here. Training in skiing is imparted at this place. My Recent Wallpaper : A shot of Bijli Mahadev

Posted by Ripple (VJ) : Recently I visited Bijli Mahadev, which is a small trek from Kullu. Since there is a road now, so we had to trek 3 km only. Its really an amazing place to visit and this was the best place I visited during my recent Kullu-Manali trip of four days. I visited many places like Rohtang, Solang, Vishishth, Naggar, Kullu, Manali, Manimahesh etc, but the best part was trekking experience to Bijli Mahadev... Bijli Mahadev is one of the sacred temples of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is located at an altitude of about 2,438 m in the Kullu Valley. Bijli Mahadev is one of the excellent temples in India. Located 10 km from Kullu across the Beas river, it can be approached by a difficult but rewarding trek of 3 km.: Posted by Ripple (VJ) : ripple, Vijay Kumar Sharma, ripple4photography, Frozen Moments, photographs, Photography, ripple (VJ), VJ, Ripple (VJ) Photography, Capture Present for Future, Freeze Present for Future, ripple (VJ) Photographs , VJ Photographs, Ripple (VJ) Photography :

Naggar Castle @ Kullu, Himachal Pradesh

Naggar Castle is situated on the left bank of river Beas at an altitude of 1851m, above sea level. Naggar - an ancient town commands an extensive views, especially of the north west of the valley. Naggar was the former capital of Kullu about 1460 years. It was founded by Raja Visudhpal and continued as a headquarters of the State until the capital was transferred to Sultanpur (Kullu) by Jagat Singh probably by 1460 A.D. Today this ancient and beautiful place is a popular tourist spot in the Kullu valley which has many legends and attractions. The Castle was converted into a rest house about hundred years back and in 1978 this ancient building was handed over to HPTDC to run as a heritage hotel. This medieval Castle was built by Raja Sidh Singh of Kullu around 1460 A.D., the hotel over looks the Kullu Valley and apart from the spectacular view and superb location, this has the flavor of authentic western Himalayan architecture. Here a gallery houses the paintings of the Russian artist Nicholas Reorich, Naggar also has three other old shrines. Hotel Castle is an unique medieval stone and wood carvings now a HPTDC heritage hotel. It offers a grand view of the valley: Posted by Ripple (VJ) : ripple, Vijay Kumar Sharma, ripple4photography, Frozen Moments, photographs, Photography, ripple (VJ), VJ, Ripple (VJ) Photography, Capture Present for Future, Freeze Present for Future, ripple (VJ) Photographs , VJ Photographs, Ripple (VJ) Photography :

A single runway, set in a deep valley whose peaks are several thousand feet higher than the runway. One way in and fly out the opposite direction. This town of Bhuntar is an important junction and commercial center that is the gateway to Kullu Valley, a sacred valley with a deep mythological history, involving the Manu, (Hindu version of Noah) who is said to have landed not far from here after being warned by a fish of a great deluge. He is the founder of civilization and this valley is called the "valley of the gods", Hindu divine beings, who set up a democratic counsel in this region to govern society. Also, this valley is home to Manikaran, sacred town of Shiva's meditation spot, and his consort Parvati, namesake for a famous river that has hot springs along it. Also Guru Nanak, founder of the Sikh religion, began his work in this valley. From Kullu one can proceed up the beautiful mountain valley lined with huge apple orchards, into Manali, home of the Manu, and from there up over Rohtang pass, 13,000 feet, connecting on to Kashmir and Tibet.

Its monsoon time in Delhi now...

Posted by Ripple (VJ) : Its monsoon time in Delhi now : A monsoon is a seasonal prevailing wind that lasts for several months, caused by the development of a thermal low over a land mass normally within the subtropics. The term was first used in English in India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and neighboring countries to refer to the big seasonal winds blowing from the Indian Ocean and Arabian Sea in the southwest bringing heavy rainfall to the area.A monsoon is a seasonal prevailing wind that lasts for several months, caused by the development of a thermal low over a land mass normally within the subtropics.
