Sitarvadak @ BIG HORN FEST 2011 inside India Habitat Center, Delhi
A Sitar-vadak @ Big Horn Fest 2011 in IHC Amphitheater, Delhi !!!
The Sitar a plucked stringed instrument predominantly used in Indian classical music, where it has been ubiquitous since the Middle Ages. It derives its resonance from sympathetic strings which is a long hollow neck and a gourd resonating chamber.
Used throughout the Indian subcontinent, particularly in Northern India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, the sitar became known in the western world through the work of Pandit Ravi Shankar beginning in the late 50s, particularly after George Harrison of The Beatles took lessons from Shankar and Shambhu Das and played sitar in songs such as "Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)" and "Within You Without You". Shortly after, The Rolling Stones used a sitar in "Paint It Black" and a brief fad began for using the instrument in pop songs !!!

Sounds of Classical Music @ BIG HORN FEST 2011 inside India Habitat Center, Delhi
Add caption |
Indian classical music has its original in the Vedas which are the oldest scriptures in the Hindu tradition !!! Indian classical music has also been significantly influenced by Indian folk music and Persian music. The Samaveda which is one of the four Vedas, describes music with lots of details...
Indian classical music is considered as very elaborate and expressive form of music. Like Western classical music it divides the octave into 12 semitones of which the 7 basic notes are in ascending tonal order, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa for Hindustani music
and "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Dha Ni Sa". But Indian music uses just-intonation tuning unlike most modern Western classical music which is more about equal-temperament tuning system.
Indian classical music is monophonic in nature and based around a single melody line !!! The performance is based melodically on particular ragas and rhythmically on talas. Because of the focus on exploring the raga, performances have traditionally been solo endeavors, but duets are gaining in popularity.

Last year in October, I visited Banglore for a Software conference and planned to visit the popular Mall called UB City !!! Ideally I should not call it a mall... Its a huge campus with lot many things like showrooms of top brands of the world, Premium Hotels and Service Appartments, Restaurants, Bars and clubs etc.. In the middle of this huge building there is an open area for families to spend time and have fun with their friends & children ... There are some colorful fountains around this open area of UB City and children like to have fun around these.. This photograph shows a little girl standing near one of the fountains inside UB City and deciding about next plan of action which should be acceptable to her Parents :)

Well lit Christ church on Ridge ground, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh
Every person who visit Shimla has to go to Ridge and Christ Church is one of the interesting structure out there. Its on the rightmost edge of the Ridge when we go towards Lakkar Bazar !! Ridge is a huge ground on top of the biggest water tank in Shimla.. There is an underground market at Ridge which is known as Indira Market but not very popular.. People like to shot at Lakkar Bazar or Mall Road !!! For better options for warm cloths at reasonable prices, don't forget Lower Market below Mall Road, but one needs to do proper bargaining as required in any Hill Station :)

A wonderful view of Dhauladhar Mountain Ranges covered with snow
Recently I visited a village called Pathiar which is very famous for high quality potatoes and many companies like Lays take most of the Potato crop from this region ! This village is exactly under Dhauladhar Mountain Ranges near Palampur. Apart from beauty, all the these mountains provide magical energy to Himalayan land to grow world's famous Kangra-Tea and Potatoes...

A security Personnel on duty outside President's House in Delhi, INDIA
President's House and surrounding areas like Parliament house, Secretariate and India Gate comes under high security zones in Delhi !!! Most of the times we see India Army forces appointed around these areas and I am happy about this fact. Somehow Indians are not unnecessarily scared of Army people and these security folks would rarely talk rudely to anybody. While if we consider Policemen, most of the times people don't even like to talk to them because they can ask you to pay for that conversion :) ... If you haven't experienced this as of now, I would say 'You are lucky' !!!

Panning Experiments @ MTB Himachal 2010 (Mountain Terrain Biking) - 3
Although this photograph doesn't have any panning effect visually, but it was an attempt to capture the back motion with moving rider as still elements in the photograph.. Background is blurred but a feel of motion is missing ! In this photograph, fill in flash is used to make sure that rider is clearly visible even if photograph is clicked against sunlight.. This was probably 4th day of MTB Himachal 2010 and whole day was full of energy while going through beautiful hills in Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh !!!
