Panning Experiments @ MTB Himachal 2010 (Mountain Terrain Biking) - 6

Some Panning Experiments during MTB Himachal 2010 : (Mountain Terrain Biking Event organized by HASTPA) : Posted by VJ SHARMA on www.travellingcamera.com : I was never a fan of Panning technique of photography but the pace of MTB Riders and the passion of accelerating speed compelled me to try it... And believe me it was not a simple task to do panning with unpredictable speed of these riders... They were extremely fast and suddenly they used to disappear due to frequent turns on hills.. During last two days MTB Himachal 2010, I tried few shots of panning and here are the results.. Check out !!!This was very first shot of panning I tried on third last day and this motivated to click more :) ... Since it was evening time, light and relatively slow shutter speed helped me to click this photograph in such a way that motion is clear in the final results.... Now I was more confident to try it again during next day !!!Here is another photograph, but it doesn't look like panning shot but I liked the way final result came... It was evening time when we were very near to the camping site of the day... Here is another photograph and I loved the star effect in the background... Colorful dresses of MTB Riders and natural beauty of himalayas helped making this photograph more colorful...Here is a photograph clicked with Fish eye and the rider was very near to me... Thats why there is some distortion in back tyre of this cycle...gain this can be called as panning shot... Best way of shooting a good panning shot is to anticipate the speed of the object and then set same shutter-speed.... Here is one rider from Kullu, Himachal Pradesh...Another rider of MTB Himachal 2010...

This photograph was clicked last year during Mountain Terrain Biking event in Himachal Pradesh during October. This is first time I seriously tried panning but believe me it was too difficult with these guys :) Everyone has unique speed and very fast, in fact... And there is no chance of clicking two panning shots with one rider :)

Panning Experiments @ MTB Himachal 2010 (Mountain Terrain Biking) - 5

Last year, I aprticipated in MTB Himachal 2010 as Photographer due to my over-excitement about this event, although it was very disappointing in the end. Never mind, this activity provided various opportunities to try different things from Photography point of view. During fourth day of MTB I tried various Panning shots !! Apart from Panning, it was really challenging to deal with light on hills and situation becomes worse while moving whole day. Light variation is huge between the hills and bby the time you get familiar with one type of light, you reaches another light region :) ... All in all it was a good decision to go to Himalayas with my Camera but I would prefer not to go to MTB this year !!! Planning a personal trip would be more beneficial in my personal opinion. Panning Experiments @ MTB Himachal 2010 (Mountain Terrain Biking) - 3

Although this photograph doesn't have any panning effect visually, but it was an attempt to capture the back motion with moving rider as still elements in the photograph.. Background is blurred but a feel of motion is missing ! In this photograph, fill in flash is used to make sure that rider is clearly visible even if photograph is clicked against sunlight.. This was probably 4th day of MTB Himachal 2010 and whole day was full of energy while going through beautiful hills in Kullu District of Himachal Pradesh !!!

Me in glass reflection of a Car @ Bir Billing, Himachal Pradesh, INDIA

Travelling-Camera sharing some high altitude captures from Road Journey to Bir-Billing: World Famous place for Paragliding: Posted by VJ on www.travellingcamera.com : VJ capturing reflection of beautiful Billing on car-window... Travelling Camera @ Billing, World's famous Para-gliding site...After a long road journey through Mandi, Hamirpur, Sujanpur-Tira, Palampur, Dharmshala and Baijnath, we finally reached Billing, world famous site for Paragliding.Just crossed Bir to reach Billing for experiencing paragliding on world's famous site in Dhauladhar Mountain range... Under legs of mountains and surrounded by tea gardens Bir a small village with a Tibetan Colony and monasteries in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh(INDIA) which serves as a landing ground and a base for Hang/Para-gliders. Launching or take-off place is BILLING which is a little meadow at 2408 meters (8550 feets) on the Dhauladhar ranges: 14 kilometers up from Bir. This meadow is one of the wonders of nature seems like perfectly designed as a launch pad. Billing has become a legend on the international paragliding circuits and a destination for World Champion Paraglider pilots. The meadow directly above the villages of Bir and Chaugan is one of the best gliding sites in the world...Travelling Camera trying to capture wonderful colors of BILLING through side mirror of Hundai i10 ... From Billing the mountain range runs all the way to Dharamsala by separating the Kangra district distrc from Chamba. To the north of the meadow is the high peaks and to the south the plains. The fall from the meadow is about one kilometre and an average straight top to bottom flight to the Chaughan landing area lasts for about 30-45 minutes.A View of Jogindernagar region from a small road towards BILLING from Aehju...Road between Aehju and Bir is fine but the stretch of 10 kilometers was in very bad conditions. Its a very narrow road and rough at most places... Careful driving is very important because there are deep valleys on the other edge of this road... Initially its discouraging but after reaching BILLING, we found it worth it... A View of landing place BIR from the most famous paragliding destination in Dhauladhar range... The huge Dhauladar mountain range and Kangra valley with its panoramic views offer opportunities for high altitude flying for more than 190 kilometers. The Dhauladar range runs from Dalhousie in the North West of Himachal Pradesh in a curving arc of south-east to Mandi. Billing lies roughly midway between Dharamsala and Mandi and to the south west of Manali/Kullu valley.Tourist Vehicles @ BILLING, amazing para-gliding site in INDIA.. Billing is very well known in world for having the distinction of organizing the very first Paragliding competition according to the rules of Federation Aeronautique International. The Department of Tourism of Himachal Pradesh also organizes 'Para Gliding Pre world Cup' at Billing- Bir . It is also the place for Hang gliding and Para Sailing...Travelling Camera capturing the only house at high altitude of Billing Hills in Dhauladhar Range...

Beautiful Himachal

Solang Valley revisited for paragliding again... : Posted by VJ SHARMA at www.travellingcamera.com : Last year one of my friend who was free in April after his financial year in office and wanted to do something adventurous... He work as Development Officer in Palampur which is very near to Billing (World famous place for Paragliding), but he chose to come to Solang to have a Paragliding experience near snow covered hills... Here are few photographs from that trip...Here is first view of green Solang Valley after leaving our car in the parking on road-side... Marhi is another place near Manali to enjoy paragliding and considered as another good place to have different experience on top of snow covered hills...Road from Manali to Solnag Valley is beautiful and having different views of River, Hills, Valley and snow covered hills... There is a military camp across Beas River which loooks amazing and almost everyone dream of a home at that location :-)View from valley are amazing... We also trekked to a hill which is opposite to Solang Valley and we were literally mocing through clouds... It was amazing weather when we reached on the top... Clouds were moving very fast and we were also able to see other gliders near Marhi, which is on very high hills on the way to Rohtang Pass...At Solang Valley, they offer para-glider ride from different places based on height and areal view to the valley... My friend tried the flight from highest point in Solang valley which can be reached after 45 minutes of trek to the hill top on left side of this valley... They asked for 2K and finally we paid 1300 for this ride... It was 15 minute ride in air and we realized that we should have negotiated more for this :-) Also this duration depends upon the air-flow, this is told by experts there ;-)

Wonderful trekking experience of Bijli Mahadev @ Kullu-Manali, Himachal Pradesh : Posted by VJ Sharma at www.travellingcamera.com :Last year when I went to Kullu Manali with my college friend, Bijli-Mahadev is the place I liked the most. Its a wonderful place on hill top from where whole Kullu Valley, Manikaran, Malana, Bhuntar and bunch of Apple Orchids can be seen... Here are few views of Bijli Mahadev...Here is the very first view on reaching Bijli Mahadev... You are seeing a yellow path on right side of the photograph, which is a road connected through some small villages and apple orchids... It connects this Bijli Mahadev with Naggar... This road is not recommended if there are rains or probability of rains...Here is the road I was talking about... It a nice walk from Bijli Mahadev...but don't go far..A view to hills in parallel with clouds...Photograph clicked while coming back towards Bijli Mahadev from that road which connects it with Naggar...Few local people sitting on an edge of Bijli Mahadev which is giving a view of Malana Village and Kasol region...Other side of Bijli Mahadev which has dense forest of Deodars on a steep hill...Friends walking around Bijli Mahadev and enjoying the chilly/fast winds here...Radio Transmission Anteena near Bijli Mahadev Temple...A view of Beas River and Bhuntar Airport from Bijli Mahadev...Closer view to Bhuntar airport from Bijli Mahadev @ Kullu, Himachal Pradesh, INDIA...A closer look to Manali Highway and green fields around it... Pathankot-Jogindernagar Toy Train in Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh

Toy Train experience on Pathankot-Jogindernagar Railway Track in Himachal Pradesh : Posted by VJ SHARMA @ www.travellingcamera.com : I have spent one day in Kalka Shimla Toy train and few days back I had chance to travele in Pathankot-Jogindernagar Toy Train... Here are few photographs of that journey...Pathankot-Jogindernagar Toy Train crossing a bridge near Kangra....The distance of Pathankot from Kangra is 96 kilometers and Jogindar Nagar from Kangra is 69 kilometers... This toy train takes more time than normal plain area time as it travels at very low speed and as it is a single line so train stops to give passage to trains from other direction. The train passes through valleys, rivers, many beautiful towns and towards the last stretch of the journey having clear view to snow covered Dhauladhar mountain ranges...Narrow track for Pathankot-Jogindernagar Toy Train...Railway Track near Aehju which is a small railway station near to Bir Billing...Railway junction to give pass for other trains coming from other direction... Its single lane and narrow-gauge track...This is of course a different experience as compared to other journeys in Toy-Trains... If I compare it with Shimla Toy Train, chances of view to snow capped hills is less in case of Kalka-Shimla Toy Train... On this route there are some beautiful tea-gardens... On the other side Shimla-Kalka toy trains passes through various tunnels which is altogether a different experience...More details about trains on this route are available @ http://www.himachalpradesh.us/himachal/himachal_train2.php : I recommend reconfirming these details from IRCTC always... I have seen changes in schedule many times....As the train moves upward and this journey becomes more scenic with a distance view of snow capped Dhauladhar mountains..... Rivers become narrower with deep blue water and the train starts taking curves on hieghts... There are few tunnels in this track in comparison to Kalka-Shimla route...Toy Train passing through Pine Forests..

Main places to visit in Himachal Pradesh : SONLANG VALLEY (MANALI)

Solang valley is in Himachal Pradesh, India and is known for its summer and winter sports. The sports most commonly offered are parachuting, paragliding, skating and zorbing. Giant slopes of lawn comprise Solang Valley and provide it its reputation as a popular ski resort. A few ski agencies offering courses and equipment reside here and operate only during winters.Snow melts during the summer months and skiing is then replaced by zorbing (a giant ball with room for 2 people which is rolled down a 200 meter hill), paragliding, parachuting and horse riding. 13 kms. is a splendid valley between Solang village and Beas Kund. Solang valley offers the view of glaciers and snow capped mountains and peaks. It has fine ski slopes. The Mountaineering Institute has installed a ski lift for training purpose. Located here is a hut and guest house of the Mountaineering and Allied sports Institute, Manali. Now a few hotels have also come up. The winter skiing festival is organised here. Training in skiing is imparted at this place. Main places to visit in Himachal Pradesh : DALHOUSIE

Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh, Snow,When I headed out for Dalhousie, I had no idea that a surprise awaited me. SNOW. My first ever!! Here are some pics.Freshly fallen Snow with Tyre Tracks. It was Slippery. I had to be very careful. My guide duly warned me of the dangers.Bright-Colors Look Incredible against the black and white back ground. No wonder the Bollywood Actresses prefer do away with woollens when shooting in freezing cold. A huge pile of snow. Unlike the first picture, this was far more compacted and lookeda little muddy. It took a lot of courage to maintain a straight face in the chill.Couldn't take it any more and put the jacket back on. Wasn't done with the snow though and got some more pics clicked. Many of them didn't turn out to be good. But thankfully a handful came out alright. My guide told me that this was actually what is called a Nalla locally. It is so different from the Nallas in Delhi.Children playing around.

Dalhousie is a very beautiful hill station of Himachal Pradesh. Its very calm and small town with amazing weather.. There is amazing view to Peer Panjal Range...

Main places to visit in Himachal Pradesh : KHAJJIAR, CHAMBA

When you get your first glimpse of Khajjiar, it is a shock to senses. One does not expect to come across a huge expanse of green grassland right in the middle of steep hills and mountains. Once you get over the shock, it is a pleasant sight. The lush green grassland surrounded by petite cottages and magnificient deodars is very soothing to the eyes. Almost like a painting.khajjiar, Himachal Pradesh, Hills, himalayas, Lakes, Water, Horses

Khajjiar is on a small plateau with a small stream-fed lake in the middle that has been covered over with Deodars. Khajjiar is surrounded by green meadows and dense forests. It is about 6550 feet above sea level in the foothills of the Dhauladhar ranges of the Western Himalayas and snow-covered peaks can be seen in the distance...

A View of Kullu Valley from Naggar Palace

Naggar Castle is situated on the left bank of river Beas at an altitude of 1851m, above sea level. Naggar - an ancient town commands an extensive views, especially of the north west of the valley. Naggar was the former capital of Kullu about 1460 years. It was founded by Raja Visudhpal and continued as a headquarters of the State until the capital was transferred to Sultanpur (Kullu) by Jagat Singh probably by 1460 A.D. Today this ancient and beautiful place is a popular tourist spot in the Kullu valley which has many legends and attractions. The Castle was converted into a rest house about hundred years back and in 1978 this ancient building was handed over to HPTDC to run as a heritage hotel. This medieval Castle was built by Raja Sidh Singh of Kullu around 1460 A.D., the hotel over looks the Kullu Valley and apart from the spectacular view and superb location, this has the flavor of authentic western Himalayan architecture. Here a gallery houses the paintings of the Russian artist Nicholas Reorich, Naggar also has three other old shrines. Hotel Castle is an unique medieval stone and wood carvings now a HPTDC heritage hotel. It offers a grand view of the valley: Posted by Ripple (VJ) : ripple, Vijay Kumar Sharma, ripple4photography, Frozen Moments, photographs, Photography, ripple (VJ), VJ, Ripple (VJ) Photography, Capture Present for Future, Freeze Present for Future, ripple (VJ) Photographs , VJ Photographs, Ripple (VJ) Photography :
